Melatonin-based sleep aid drinks may be unsafe, according to the FDA. Research has shown, however, that melatonin supplementation is safe in healthy adults.
What is melatonin?
Melatonin is a hormone produced in the pineal gland in the brain, to regulate sleep cycles. The brain produces melatonin during periods of darkness, and suppresses production of the hormone when it is light.
Is melatonin safe?
According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, research has shown melatonin to be safe for healthy adults, but recommends that doctor's advice should be sought prior to the use of supplements. There are a variety of symptoms that can arise during the use of melatonin, including dizziness, clotting abnormalities, male breast growth, headache, allergic reactions, arrhythmia, and seizure. Individuals who should avoid melatonin unless monitored by a physician include:

I keep trying to leave a comment but I am not having much luck.. trying again.
There is nothing wrong with taking a small dosage of melatonin daily. I take around 3MG every night with no issues. Why is the media making such a big deal????
