Eating a single medium-sized movie popcorn and a soda is equivalent to eating three Quarter Pounders from McDonald's, along with 12 pats of butter, according to a new study by the Center for Science and Public Interest.
In the study, researchers analyzed the calorie and fat content of movie popcorn and soda, with astonishing results. Among their findings were that a medium popcorn from Regal, the country's biggest movie chain, contains 1,160 calories and 60 grams (that's three days' worth) of fat. Together with a soda, that's the equivalent of three Quarter Pounders from McDonald's, along with 12 pats of butter.
The study data also differed sharply with the official figures listed by Regal for those products. For example, Regal claims their medium popcorn has 720 calories and the large has 960,
A small popcorn at Regal had 670 calories - the same as a Pizza Hut Personal Pepperoni Pan Pizza. Even if two people share a small popcorn, they're still getting about an entire day's worth of saturated fat per person in a single serving, according to CSPI.

OH MY GOOOOOOOOOSSSSSHHHHHH- I feel sick just thinking of it. Oh wow, I had NO idea! Thanks for sharing this, people need to realize what they are eating!
I think this is BS! How does that even make sense? If I eat a medium size popcorn every day I would gain as much weight and be as unhealthy as a person sitting next to me choosing to eat 3 quarter pounders and 12 pats of butter every day? I don't think so!!! I'll have a medium popcorn please...
I always order popcorn plain. That buttery-flavored oil they put on it in copious amounts is the culprit. I think it tastes nasty, besides it being terribly bad for your health. And skip the soda. Most theaters, these days, offer bottled water.
