Did fertility Doc use own sperm to inseminate women?

Dr. Ben Ramaley, a Greenwich, Connecticut fertility doctor has been
accused of using his own sperm to impregnate the wife of a couple who
engaged his services. Here, Carolyn Savage talks about her experience
of being implanted with the wrong embryo and delivering a baby boy

Dr. Ben Ramaley, a Greenwich, Connecticut fertility doctor has been accused of using his own sperm to impregnate the wife of a couple who engaged his services. He has also given up his license to practice in New York for the same improper conduct, which leaves open the question of how many other women might be affected.

The well-known doctor was hired in 2002 to artificially inseminate the wife using sperm from her husband. After several tries, the woman became pregnant and gave birth to twins.

Court documents reveal that the parents were suspicious at the "fair complexion" of the children as the husband is African-American. This doubt led the couple to seek a DNA test in 2004, which confirmed that the husband was in fact not the biological father of the twins.

In 2005 the couple sued Ramaley, claiming that the doctor "intentionally inserted his own sperm into" the wife. Ramaley denied the allegations.

The parties settled the lawsuit out of court, but the Connecticut Public Health Department launched an investigation into possible wrongful conduct by doctor Ramaly. They ultimately fined him $10,000 dollars, and ordered him to cease performing artificial inseminations.

The Health Department did permit Dr. Ramaley to keep his medical license, and he still practices medicine in Connecticut. However, Dr. Ramaly has surrendered his license to practice medicine in New York due to the same misconduct.

In a separate story, Caroline Savage was implanted with the wrong embryo at a fertility clinic. She has taken her story public, saying she hopes to visit soon with the baby boy she delivered in September and turned over to his biological parents. Stay tuned for more on that story.

Oh wow, I can not imagine. How unethical!!!!!! He should not have been allowed to practice medicine at all, I cant believe that he was going to be allowed to continue working with patients. Sad and scary,
