Another Milwaukee nursing home in trouble

On May16th, West Allis police arrested a man and issued him a citation for peeking into the windows of homes in the area. Police thought the man was homeless and since he had outstanding warrants in other cases, took the man to the Milwaukee County jail. However, during the passing of these events, state regulator's found that the staff at Mount Carmel nursing home located at 5700 W Layton Ave had been charting the entire time that this man was in his room watching television. The facts became clear that the staff at Mount Carmel nursing home had no idea that one of their residents had left the facility and was committing crimes in the local neighborhood.

Mount Carmel received a citation for this event as well as an additional 34 citations for other failures by the nursing home to follow state and federal regulations in care of their residents. Failure to meet federal and state guidelines is not new to Mount Carmel. In January 2010, December 2009, and November 2009, the nursing home received citations for failing to meet federal and state regulations.

Trouble is not new to Mount Carmel Nursing Home. Twelve years ago, the nursing home was almost shut down for repeated violations.
