Santa came early this year, and instead of the usual toys, gadgets, and trinkets, he brought hope for those suffering from chemical sensitivity (MCS), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), fibromyalgia, and electrical sensitivity.
It hasn’t escaped notice that the above conditions behave in somewhat the same way, and many people suffer from more than one of these ailments. Without knowledge of a specific cause however, treatment has focused on holistic treatments, and a complete recovery was thought to be impossible.
Norman Doidge’s best-seller, The Brain that Changes Itself, came out in 2007. The learning disabled, obsessive worriers, phantom pain sufferers and many others, were using the plasticity of the brain to improve brain function and eliminate pain. Suddenly everyone was talking about neuroplasticity.
Annie Hopper: After moving into an unhealthy building, therapist and writer, Annie Hopper, found herself suddenly living the nightmare of chemical sensitivity, electrical sensitivity, and fibromyalgia. Her condition progressed to the point where she had to leave her practice, her home, friends and family just to cope with her illness. She was living on a friend’s houseboat when she discovered the work of Norman Doidge and others who were exploring neuroplasticity and the power of the brain to heal itself.
Annie discovered that her various symptoms were a result of an acquired brain injury. As soon as she learned to “re-train” her brain, her symptoms disappeared and she was able to completely recover. Since then she’s been helping others recover from chronic illnesses resulting from similar brain injuries.
Last November Annie Hopper gave her first American brain re-training workshop in Mill Valley, California. She selected a meeting place in a rural area, with no carpet, chemical cleaners, or pesticides and created a safe place for even the most chemically sensitive attendee.
Nine polite, but doubting workshop participants arrived on November 14 and impatiently waited to see what Annie had to offer. Methodically, the Canadian laid out the basic building blocks to recover normal brain function. One by one, she guided people through the steps and gave the gift everyone had wished for, the hope for a healthy and happy life.

In June 2009, Annie gave the keynote address, “Acquired Toxic Brain Injuries and Neuroplasticity" at the Comox Valley Brain Injury Conference In British Columbia. Annie is meeting with Norman Doidge, M.D. to discuss her ground-breaking research in January. She returns to Mill Valley in February to lead another workshop.

Carla, Check out the Hopper website carefully. Read some of the books, too. The fight-flight response can get stuck in the "on" position causing a cascade of damaging effects. Once the fight-flight response is calmed, the body can begin the healing process, which for many will include some kind of detox. Run the information by your doctor. Best of luck to you.
