First Lady Michelle Obama launched the Let's Move! campaign in February to help find solutions to the childhood obesity epidemic. As a part of this effort, President Barack Obama established the Task Force on Childhood Obesity to develop and implement an interagency plan with a coordinated strategy, specific benchmarks, and a stated action plan to end the problem within a generation.
The defined action plan identified a goal of ending childhood obesity in a generation as returning to a childhood obesity rate of just 5 percent by 2030. Five percent was the obesity rate before childhood obesity first began to rise in the late 1970s. The report presents a series of 70 specific recommendations, many of which can be implemented right away.

In summary, the report calls for involving children more in regular physical activity and improve the diet by limiting high fat and sugary foods.
In a related note, the Cartoon Network's MOVE IT MOVEMENT TOUR is the latest expansion of Cartoon Network’s award-winning Get Animated initiative—now entering its sixth year—to battle against childhood obesity through daily recess, education and active after-school involvement. The promotion will be supported by heavy on-air and online promotion from Cartoon Network and its participating cable affiliates, and will feature occasional appearances by local professional athletes from the NBA and the NFL. Dallas is included on the 2010 tour route.
