According to Skynews, a 35-year-old HIV-positive man in New Zealand injected his blood into his wife while she was sleeping, thereby infecting her with the virus, court documents have revealed.

Reportedly, the man did it so that his wife would begin having sex with him again. She had refused to do so because she was afraid of getting the virus. He transmitted the virus by sticking her with a sewing needle tainted with his blood. .

The wife stated that in May of 2008, she found a mark on her left thigh that resembled an insect sting and two days later awoke to a stinging sensation in her leg.

She said: "I got up... and I flicked the blankets... I looked at (the husband) and he was wide awake." She confronted her husband who denied it. She later found blood evidence. "All he said (was) he was sorry. He said, 'I used needles on you because I wanted you to be the same as me so that you can live with me and you won't leave me'," she said.

The husband has admitted wilfully infecting another with a disease and is currently in prison awaiting sentencing, and faces up to 14 years in jail.
