According to report from Duke University medical Center, four patients at a single hospital tested positive for a type of H1N1 swine flu that is resistant to Tamiflu. This resistance is a sign the virus is mutating. If this is the case, how can the vaccine work for it?
As early as last June 24th, a Daily News report stated the swine flu virus was mutating in Germany and that mutation could affect the northern hemisphere. According to a report in Wordpress, a WHO representative said the virus wasn't mutating, but there were signs it was developing a resistance to the vaccine.
This contradicts a September report from the CDC that the vaccine was working and the H1N1 virus wasn't mutating. As of today, despite these reports of the virus mutating in North Caroline, nothing appears on the CDC web site about the virus mutating.
Whether the H1N1 virus is or isn't mutating, the best bet is to have a strong immune system. This is something each of us is born with that can fight off viruses if we keep it strong.
Here are some tips:
- take an inventory of what might be weakening your immune system and make changes: stress, a diet high in fat, sugar, and refined processed foods (burgers and other meats, fries, canned foods, sodas, white breads and sugary desserts for starters).
- begin a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables (preferably uncooked because the protective enzymes haven't been killed in the cooking process), whole grains, and other high fiber foods such as dried beans, sunflower or pumpkin or chia seeds
- put garlic powder on your salads and in your soups and strews and veggies
- sprinkle kelp on your food; it contains iodine, calcium, iron, carotene, protein, riboflavin, and vitamin D, which are necessary for a healthy immune system
- get 8 hours of sleep every night; sleep is the period of time when your body repairs itself; without sufficient sleep, you cannot be healthy
- exercise moderately every day; exercise elevates mood, which in turn has a positive effect on your immune system
- avoid reading about, sharing, or watching information that breeds fear and anxiety, i.e., stress
- avoid any drugs except those prescribed as necessary by your health care practitioner; all drugs stress your body because it must spend valuable resources to detoxify the byproducts of whatever you take and that reduces the resources available to your immune system to fight disease
- eat red clover (found in your yard if you don't spray it; or purchase as a tea) and dandelion (found in the produce aisle or stand as a green you can use in salads; or purchase as a tea) can help; red clover enhances the immune response and dandelion cleans the liver, the main organ of detoxification, which must function optimally to have a strong immune reaction to viruses
- avoid marijuana; it weakens the immune system
- avoid toxic metals; drink reverse osmosis filtered water or distilled water, eat only specific types of fish (chunk white tuna, mackerel, ocean salmon)

The Examiner's posts on swine flu are right on target. Immune health is key as you pointed out. I kept myself healthy for three years after pneumonia partly by working out regularly. Twice daily doses of Lysine helped me finally get shingles out of my system, so they're my antiviral supplement. I also use hand sanitizers a lot and am considering wearing a face mask when I work out at the gym or am in a store, regardless of how it looks. I hope that helps and look forward to continuing to follow your blog. Information I compiled on face masks - medical research and pratical tips - can be found through my home page www.flurules.com.
Hrrmm...I've heard conflicting reports on marijuana use and its benefits when paired with a situation like the flu. For instance: digitaljournal.com/article/276928
