Dog lovers and their accommodating workplaces will come together on Friday (June 26) for the 10th annual Take Your Dog to Work Day.
This event, created by Pet Sitters International, was established in 1999 to “celebrate the great companions dogs make and encourage their adoptions from local shelters, rescue groups and humane societies.”
If you’re planning on bringing your four-legged friend to your office (you’ve cleared it with the boss, right?), here are a few tips from Bamboo Pet Products for a healthy and happy day for both of you.
Create a doggy bag: Bring comforting items from home such as your pet’s favorite blanket, bed, and toys.
Stay hydrated: Dogs often get anxious when in unknown places. Keep your pet refreshed by keeping a bowl of fresh water in your office.
Take frequent bathroom breaks: This will help to ensure your pet has no accidents in the workplace. However, be prepared if one should happen; bring waste bags and disinfectant or anti-bacterial wipes to cleanse any accident areas.
Keep treats on your desk: This lets you reward your dog for good behavior, while also allowing your co-workers to offer a treat upon meeting your pet.
Assign projects for your pet: Interactive toys and treats hidden around your office will keep your pet occupied, allowing you to complete your work assignments.
If all goes well, perhaps your bosses will be more inclined to make this more than a yearly event, by setting up a dog-friendly workplace. The Humane Society has good tips for making this happen.
