How much water should I be drinking, is a popular question.

A previous article stated that “75 % of Americans are chronically dehydrated.” Read the full article here.

Lack of water can lead to many issues including headaches, mood swings, dizziness, muscle weakness and lack of energy.

How much water should one be consuming on a daily basis?

A quick rule of thumb to stay thoroughly hydrated is to drink half of your body weight in ounces.

For example, if someone weighs 100 pounds, they should drink about 50 ounces of water per day.

A water filter will ensure the water is safe and pure.

There are many reasons to make sure you get your daily fill of water.  Here are 5:

1) Protect your immune system.  The human body has natural barriers that help guard people against viruses and pollutants. These barriers need water to function optimally. If they dry out, they are more likely to allow pollutants to enter the system.

2) Support your liver and kidneys. Water helps the liver and kidneys flush waste and toxins out of the body.

3) Keep your digestive system happy.  The intestines have a lot of work to do and need plenty of water to function optimally.

4) Improve your exercise/ sports performance. If a person becomes dehydrated, their ability to perform physical fitness tasks decreases significantly.  It is important to stay hydrated by drinking water before, during and after a workout.

5) Maximize your energy level to complete your daily tasks. Life is busy. By making a simple change like drinking more water, or substituting that cup of coffee for a big glass of water in the morning, one will have more energy throughout the day.
