How to develop a healthy eating habit

“Eat with your stomach, not with your eyes.”

Today, many people are having a very difficult time developing a healthy eating habit. One of the main reasons why people usually over eat is because they eat with their eyes and not with their stomachs. Our stomach is half the side of how much food the eyes see. So whenever you eat, you have to remember that your stomach does not need as much food as you would think.

Three ways to help you to be aware of your food consumption:

1. Eat in moderation: The main reason why we need to eat is to stay healthy in order to have energy to do our daily activities. However, eating is not just about survivor anymore, but people use food for enjoyment and or in depression. When people use food for other occasions instead for survivor issues, they tend to overeat. And that is why Americans have overweight and obese problems. As a society, we need to re-examine our eating habits and only eat what and when it is appropriate. If not, we are wasting food and putting our health in danger.

2. Eat and chew slowly: People can enjoy their food more when they chew and eat their food slowly. When you chew your food well, you will break down all the nutrition in the food to keep you healthy. Furthermore, people will taste more of the sweet and delicious favors of the food. Eating slowly will also help your stomach digest better, and you do not have to feel like your stomach is over loaded with food after a meal. Our stomachs need at least 15 to 20 minutes to realize that they are full. When you take the time to chew and eat your food slowly, you are helping your stomach digests in order to give off a sign that you are full. People who eat fast and just swallow their food will eat more because they did not allow their stomachs to digest.

3. Do not watch television: Eating without watching television will also help you to eat less. When you watch television, you are focusing on the television and not on what and how much food you are consuming. When you pay attention to the television, you would not chew the foods as well as you would like. Even though there are people who say that they can chew their food slowly while watching television, it is harder than it sound.

Tip: Always sit down when you are eating.

After you develop a healthy eating habit, you will feel uncomfortable when you start to chew fast and or eat too much. Not only will you help the environment by eating less, but you are becoming a healthier person with a better digestion system. And always remember to get fewer foods than what you think you should eat because our eyes are much bigger than our stomachs.
