Recent footgage, obtained on hidden camera, from the organization Mercy for Animals, has uncovered horrific footage showing baby chicks ground up alive. The facility videotaped is Hy-Line International in Spencer, Iowa. Mercy for Animals urges consumers to think about compassionate eating choices.Workers separate males chicks from the females, as soon as they are born. Next, they throw them into a chute where they are ground up alive. Mercy for Animals used hidden cameras to uncover the cruelty animals endure to bring food to humans.
Mercy for Animals supports a vegan diet, specifically for this reason. Industrialized , modern hatcheries spawn animal abuse.
According to Mercy for Animals, 30 million newly hatched chicks are mishandled, then thrown into the chutes to be ground up while still alive each year.
The word to consumers from Mercy for Animals is, "Egg producers have gone to great lengths to hide their cruel practices from consumers. Grocery aisles from coast-to-coast are stocked with egg cartons featuring idyllic images of free-roaming hens and crowing roosters. These deceptive marketing gimmicks conceal the cruel and violent nature of industrial hatcheries and egg factory farms."
Mercy for Animals was founded to urge consumers to make compassionate choices about the food we eat. In a consumer driven society, food choices can do much to help stop such senseless waste and cruelty. You can read more about hatchery practices at the Mercy for Animals website, from Dr. Sara Shields, an animal welfare scientist at the University of Nebraska, and other experts here.

According to Hy-Line's website, the facility that grinds-up these chicks, they grind-up over 30 million chicks a year at this one facility, but the industry grinds-up and otherwise kills (gassing, suffocation or slamming into metal sheets) over 200 million every year in the U.S.
This is a sad commentary on the human race. I don't care what your argument is for doing this. This is so purely messed up what people do for money.
WHO CARES.ANIMALS HAVE NO RIGHTS.
If we can use roosters for food, why do they kill them? Why don't they raise them to sell to us for food?
This is disgusting and one of the reasons why I chose veganism. It kills me how little people know about the factory farmed food they're eating, or care to know. For most people a don't ask, don't tell, therefore I can not know and am innocent mentality is enough to continue their support the barbaric practices of the factory farm. Are cheap eggs really worth this??? People should be outraged. Unfortunately, very few people care enough to consider an alternative diet. I feel great about the choice I made knowing that I am not contributing to things like this. I wish everyone would make a stand and not put up with things like this as well. It's the only way it's going to stop.
It certainly is horrible. How can humans treat life this way? We do it to our planet, to animals, and to each other. Vegan looks better than ever to me. We are arrogant to think we are evolved.
Meat is Murder!
Tasty Tasty Murder.
We have lost all sense of humanity when we can kill animals this way for industrial purposes. There is no need to eat meat, and not this way...
This is sickening to think they kill animals babies while alive. Stop producing eggs if your about to murder innocent baby animals.
People do not need meat or eggs to sustain us. There are other options out there, I know as I am a vegetarian drinking soy milk, veggie burgers, portabella mushroom burgers.
Can you imagine how scared these babies are then how terrifying to go through the grinder. oh my god.
This is utterly disgusting and we have to find a way to stop it. I am trying to start a Chicken Rights Advocacy Group for Peta in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and anyone interested please email me at Stephengrantcox@gmail.com. There has got to be a way to reach people on this. There is no way one chicken should go through this, let alone millions a year.
Im all for Chicken Rights and humane treatment but dont use this as sole agenda for vegetarian or vegan diet.
