Social networking sites are easy places to lure young women with empty promises, say experts, after a Calgary man was recently charged with human trafficking.
"Those who seek out children to exploit are very good at identifying those who may not have great self esteem, loners, those who perhaps don't have that adult male influence, and they will find them in these chat rooms, game rooms, web rooms et cetera and then they will move in," said Paul Gillespie, head of the Kids' Internet Safety Alliance. Blige have joined forces for a remake of O’Connor’s 1996 song, ‘This is To Mother You’ to bring awareness to the issues of child sex trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of American girls. The song was recorded as an outreach and benefit tool for GEMS (Girls Educational and Mentoring Services) and its Girls are Not For Sale campaign and will be digitally released on December 2, 2009, The International Day to Abolish Slavery. GEMS is the nation's largest non-profit organization designed to empower American girls and young women, ages 12-21, who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking.
