The University of Connecticut's Gampel Pavilion to host World AIDS Day event

Gampel Pavilion is known as the home of national college basketball champions; however on December 1, 2009 the domed venue will be host to a World AIDS Day event.  This collaborative endeavor brings together multiple campus student organizations in  addition to Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Husky Sport to promote HIV/ AIDS education and awareness.  The following programming will provide a community out-reach service to the state's north central and north eastern regions.

  • UConn's Emeka Okafor One Million African Lives Initiative provides technical training, clinical education, donor recruitment and administration of blood screening for transfusions.
  • Safe Blood for Africa Foundation promotes the health renewal of Africa through increased access to an adequate supply of safe blood.
  • Husky Sport strives to both reinforce and teach the making of positive life choices among Hartford North End children.
