Hurricane Earl, Tropical Storm Fiona and Tropical Depression 9 moving in the Atlantic
Floridians are preparing for the height of hurricane season and many have expected an increase in activity. There are three systems in the Atlantic right now: Hurricane Earl, Tropical Storm Fiona and the newly formed Tropical Depression 9. At this point, it is unknown whether Tropical Storm 9 will organize into a hurricane that may directly impact Tampa Bay. Hurricane Earl, now a category 3 hurricane with wind speeds of 125 miles per hour, is moving up the East Coast and is not expected to bring tropical storm weather to Tampa.
Tropical Storm Fiona is moving through the Caribbean and tropical storm warnings are in effect for St. Martin and St. Barthelemy. A tropical storm watch is in effect for Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts, Nevis, Anguilla, St. Maarten, Saba and St. Eustatius. Tropical Storm Fiona has wind speeds of 60 miles per hour and may strengthen throughout Thursday.
Tropical Depression 9 is located approximately 830 miles west southwest of the Cape Verde Islands and has sustained winds of 35 miles per hour.
