Starbucks will have free Wi-Fi internet access for customers soon. The free Starbucks internet access will be through a Wi-Fi connectivity movement that the coffer corporation is hoping will draw more customers back to their stores. The free internet at Starbucks will also come with some perks that the coffee giant will provide, including free access to the Wall Street Journal online and free downloads from places like Apple iTunes, The New York Times, and USA Today. This could convince quite a few potential customers to come in through the door and enjoy coffee while they surf the net.
Starbucks hasn't put any stipulations on the free internet service at this time, but it wouldn't be surprising if they asked that users purchase something first to access the network. As it reads now though, Starbucks just wants to offer a free Wi-Fi service at the 11,500 U.S. locations in order to set themselves apart from some other internet cafes. If they do keep it 100% free this fall, this could end up being a very successful endeavor for Starbucks, because there are already quite a few internet users that would take full advantage of the feature.
The roll out of the free Starbucks Wi-Fi might take a bit as they work through their internal contracts with the freebies that will be offered online. It may also take a bit of time to get all of the stores updated to handle a lot of internet traffic. The idea is being received quite well by consumers, and it has translated into a nice stock increase as well. This week has seen a several percent increase in Starbucks shares already. Look for Spokane area locations to have the free internet access up and running by this fall.
