January 25, 2010 - A comedy benefit will take place Wednesday with hopes of raising $10,000 for the Amanda Knox appeal fund.

Long-time family friend, Renee Perrault of Renton, has known the Knox family since before Amanda was born. She does not believe Amanda is guilty and wants to help fund the upcoming appeal.

Perrault is a retired retail executive who worked with Curt Knox years ago at the Bon Marche. She helped throw a baby shower when Curt and his wife were expecting Amanda.

Perrault is organizing the event at the Comedy Underground in Seattle to help free Amanda from prison.

Since Amanda’s arrest in 2007, flights to Italy and legal expenses have financially devastated the Knox family.

Amanda was convicted last month in Italy and sentenced to 26 years in prison.

After Perrault retired she became an amateur comedienne and performs often at charity fundraisers.

She believes Amanda was wrongly convicted for the murder of her British housemate, Meredith Kercher.

Perrault wants to use her talent to help the Knox family. She has enlisted in the help of other stand-up comics to help raise money for the upcoming appeal.

There have been complaints that the situation is not humorous and to host a stand-up comedy event is tantamount to laughing at the event that occurred in 2007.

But Perrault ensures she’s not laughing at the situation. “It’s a tragedy beyond measurement. But there’s another tragedy going on, what’s happening to Amanda,” Perrault said.

No jokes will be made about the Knox case or Italy at the fundraiser Wednesday night.

KING 5 News reported Perrault hopes for a line stretching around the block because if the show sells out it could bring close to $10,000 for the Amanda Knox appeal fund. Tickets are $50 each.

What's ever happened to the Washington senator who made such a fuss right after Amanda Knox conviction?

Are the Knox's really under the mistaken believe that they can pervert the course of justice by buying the murderess free by way of a marketing/PR campaign.

As far as I am concerned murderers need to be locked up.

Amanda is clearly guilty on all counts and she had a fair trial and she will get a fair appeal were i predict the original verdict will be confirmed.

Candace Dempsey had the habit of posting to her own blog under different aliases and she was caught out commenting positively on her own post using different aliases.

She got caught one day (a PDF capture has been taken), forgetting to log out as Candace Dempsey and signed the post with a complete different name.

In that post she congratulated the original poster (herself, Candace Dempsey) on writing such a refreshing and sensible post.

I have the same level of respect for Candace Dempsey as I have for the murderess and her family.

    Deal with it.

Could Edda Mellas be charged for knowing, (Amanda told her,) that Patrick L. was innocent. Yet she claims the did not say anything because she does not speak Italian.

She was surrounded by English specking people, her lawyers, some police officers, the interpreters.

Could it be that the intention was to knowingly keep someone in jail for the crime her daughter committed?

Absolutely Julia. While we're at it, we should also charge the wizard of oz with abuse of office. Oh no, silly me, we've just done that!

Let's not be too hard on Edda, she has clearly not " got all her dogs barking ". What can be going through these peoples minds when they ponder over the mountains of evidence, then show up in front of the whole world and claim that mistakes were made and there was a " wrongful conviction "? Looking back at the OJ trial seems like watching a cartoon: Kato Kalan, the next John Wayne, Marcia Clark, the incompetent, and so on. It's easy to see why the well to do think that they can get by with anything, and smirk their way out of trouble. So little is said about the victim or her family. I for one would much prefer to hear them speak than to listen to the dilusional, obnoxious, totaly boring and useless Knox clan droning on and on about their presious little darling. It would be interesting to know about Meridith's accomplishments in her short life.
