The United States and China are the biggest producers of greenhouse emissions in the world, and on Tuesday the leaders of both countries have declared that they need to clean up the problem.
Chinese President Hu Jintao and President Obama met in Beijing on Tuesday to discuss plans on moving forward and taking action in the fight against climate change.
Environmental issues have been a hot topic during Obama's tour of Asia that began on Friday, November 13, and according to CNN, both Hu and Obama have announced their intentions to work towards creating clean technologies and reducing carbon emissions.
"China and the United States share extensive common interests and broad prospects for cooperation on a series of major issues important to mankind's peace and stability and development," said Hu.
The announcement from the two leaders precedes next month's summit in Copenhagen. On December 7, 191 countries will meet to further discuss global responsibility for environmental issues and have pledged to come to an agreement, according to CNN.
Obama has said that both China and the US want to speed the process up by coming to a pact that all of the 191 countries can agree to next month.
"As the two largest consumers and producers of energy, there can be no solution to this challenge without the efforts of both China and the United States. That is why we've agreed to a series of important new initiatives in this area," said Obama.
