Early Friday morning students at UC Berkeley barricaded themselves inside Wheeler Hall in response to the 32 percent tuition increase decided by the UC Regents on Thursday. According to KGO, police have made arrests.

Some of the students that have locked themselves inside the building have been yelling down at a crowd gathered outside that police are trying to use force to gain access.

"This is not your 60's Berkeley sit-in where they drag people out. They're coming in swinging," a student inside the building yelled, according to KGO. University police say they have not used any violence on the protesters.

The students can be charged with burglary for occupying the building when it was closed. So far there have been four arrests and it has been reported that a professor of biology was among them.

According to CBS5, vice president of the University Professional and Technical Employees-Communication of America union Local 9119, Lisa Kermish, feels the students have every right to be reacting the way they are.

"It's such a severe, monumental threat to public higher education in California. The fee hike yesterday is the most egregious example of the dangerous path that the regents have taken. It means many students are going to be dissuaded from even applying," she said.

Berkeley is not the only campus where students are displaying their frustration with the tuition hikes. Across the state UC campuses are seeing similar protests.
