CNN has reported that a passenger, Jasper Schuringa, who was on board Northwest Airlines flight 253, was the first to subdue 23-year-old Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.
Schuringa said he heard a big bang that sounded like a firecracker. When he noticed that Abdulmutallab was not moving, he jumped over the passenger next to him and lunged over Abdulmutallab's seat. Schuringa said he saw that Abdulmutallab had his pants open and he was holding a burning object between his legs. He grabbed the object and threw it away.
Other passengers and crew members rushed Abdulmutallab and seeing that his pants were on fire, grabbed water, blankets and fire extinguishers to put the fire out.
A law enforcement officer said that Abdulmutallab apparently used a syringe to inject a chemical into powder located near his groin. Abdulmutallab suffered severe burns.
Investigators have found more than 80 grams of PETN, sewed into Abdulmutallab's underwear and they have also found out that he had undergone training for a Christmas Day suicide attack.

This hero was born in Curacao the Netherland antilles.
I actually quite like it when the terrorist only manages to burn himself quite badly and not hurt anyone else. Agonizing pain he truly deserves and earned.
