On July 1st, 2009 President Obama said in a health care speech: Intermountain Health Care in Salt Lake City, Utah…offers high quality health care at costs that are well below average, in some cases 30% lower than other communities. He goes on to say that if it can be done there, it can be done everywhere in this country.
President Obama mentioned Intermountain Health Care again last night in his health care speech to congress.
Utah has the lowest per capita healthcare spending rate in the nation at $3,972. The national average is $7,026, according to a July 2009 Salt Lake Tribune article.
According to Greg Poulsen, Intermountain Health Care’s Senior Vice-President, “In Intermountain Healthcare and in Utah, we're focused on evidence-based medicine, and we're more able to provide only the services our patients need. The result is, utilization is lower here, outcomes are better, and costs are dramatically lower," Greg Poulsen said. "A growing number of health care and national leaders are seeing those results, and it's very nice that the president is among them,” according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
Intermountain Health Care (IHC) is a non-profit organization that has over 30,000 employees at over 100 locations hospital, clinics, and physician offices, according to the IHC website.
