Mexicali Red Cross seeks corporate donations for residents after massive earthquake. Thursday, the Mexicali Red Cross announced that they are seeking corporate donations of blankets, flashlights, camping equipment, and other much needed items for the tens of thousands of people who are homeless after last Sunday’s massive earthquake that hit Mexicali.
The International Community Foundation is working with the Mexican Red Cross and have specifically asked for tents, camping cots, flashlights, electric generators, kitchen utensils, blankets and radios, according to Sign on San Diego.
Sunday, the initial 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit south of Tijuana, and was felt as far north as Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, and as far east as Arizona and Las Vegas. The US Geological Survey reported that this was the largest earthquake to hit the area in almost 18 years.
Several thousand aftershocks have hit Mexicali since Sunday, and while most of the aftershocks have been in the 2.2 to 3.9-magnitude range, several larger aftershocks have hit. Thursday, two large earthquakes hit Mexicali, for more on that story click here.

The structual damage in Southern California from the earthquake is estimated at $100 million, and some put Mexico estimates at over $300 million. For more on that story, click here.
Kathy Gonzalez, who lives in San Diego is visiting friends in Salt Lake City for the holiday weekend. Sunday, Kathy watched a CNN report about the earthquake and was worried about her family in San Diego. “It has been such a long time since we’ve had a major earthquake in San Diego. I checked on my family and they are fine.”
