The 2009 Leonid meteor shower can be seen from November 13-20, and for United States watchers the most Leonid meteor shower activity will occur during the early morning hours of November 17.

NASA has predicted that the best time to view the Leonid meteor shower will be after 1:30 a.m. EST and before sunrise on November 17, 2009. Because the moon will not be visible from Earth (it will be darker) and will be in a new moon phase during the Leonid meteor showers peak, the meteors should be easier to see than ever before.

NASA states between 20-30 meteors per hour will be visible in the US. People in Asia should be able to see the most activity at 200-300 meteors per hour NASA has stated, but other astronomers are predicting that it could be as high as 500 an hour during the peak.

NASA has a great website to help you predict the best time will be for viewing the Leonid meteor shower in your area, and it is called Fluxtimator, just click on the link and enter your city which shower you want to watch.
