Mormon muffins are well known in Salt Lake City, mainly because they come with a great buttered sugar coating. A new Hot Mormon Muffin Calendar takes on that sterotype head-on with a vintage pin-up Mormon mother calendar, and includes a muffin recipe on each page.
The calendar is similar to a recent Men on a Mission calendar which had 12 Mormon Missionaries in their white shirts (with their names on their shirts). The man who produced that calendar, Chad Hardy lost his LDS church membership and BYU diploma in a church court. Hardy had already completed all of his coursework in June of 2008, walked with his graduating class in August, and received a letter in September from BYU saying they were pulling his degree for breaking the BYU honor code.
A spokesman for the calendar stated that the calendar is designed to shake up stereotypes that paint Mormons as "stuffy or hyper-conservative and mothers in particular as homemakers from another era."
"For Mormons, the most holy calling next to missionary work is motherhood," the spokesman said. "But they're not all the subservient housewives that people think they are."
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints doesn't endorse or even acknowledge the calendar, and as expected many Mormon's are offended by it.
Amazon calendar description: From the creators of the popular Men on a Mission Calendar comes this hot addition fresh from the oven: Hot Mormon Muffins: A Taste of Motherhood. The debut 2010 edition features twelve beautiful Mormon mothers posing in kitschy vintage pin-up style. Much like the missionary men before them, these sexy moms have dared to step into the spotlight to breakdown stereotypes and extend a hand of friendship beyond religious and social boundaries. Shot in a centerfold format with oversized imagery, the calendar features the ladies' favorite muffin recipes with a portion of the proceeds going to Breast Cancer research.

Of all the things that are controversial these days, this hardly qualifies. I think trivial is a better word choice. I can see the headline now:
"Trivial Mormon Muffins Calendar causes no controversy."
Oh, but who sells papers (or page views) honest headlines like that?
To Controversy It's my guess you don't live in Utah or have a college degree. If your college degree was taken away because you posed in a calender, you might consider that very controversial.
Nice guesses, Mike. So your claim is that if I was the person who was kicked out school for making the calendar that mocked the Mormons who own the school that kicked me out before I received my degree, then I would consider this controversial.
Interesting theory. Truth is, I would still consider it trivial and accept that I got what I deserved for hijacking the Mormon name and pairing it with half-naked people just to make a buck.
This guy is yet to do anything of importance or value--hence Trivial.
Interesting title. Being raised Mormon, I would venture to say that it's possible that all the calendar women, or at least one of them, doesn't know what the term "muffin" means in sex lingo.
Hahahaha! This is why Mormons are seen as stuffy! These women are hardly what I would call scantily clad! Yet the church is offended! LMAO
Well, the Mormon "religion" is just begging to be mocked. Almost as much as the Scientologists.
FOOLS MOCK, BUT THEY SHALL MOURN !!! (Ether 12:26)
I'm not a Mormon, but I respect their basic values and modesty. There's always someone wanting to push at conservative values and traditions until they become obscure. That's what's wrong with our inner cities. It may seem trivial now, but chipping away at something seems minor until the last chip.
As in everything there are degrees. It's a long way from a cheesecake photo or a bawdy story to injecting this type of thing while speaking of scripture. This type of humor crosses that line completely. It goes from being "naughty" to defacing a religion whose members work very hard to serve Christ and their fellow man. Mocking God is a particularly dangerous passtime for those who hope for anything good after this short mortal life.
I would not dare mock God ... but "religions" like LDS and Scientology are worthy of being mocked.
Fools mock , but they shall MOURN!!!!! (Ether 12:26
I agree... mock on.
Folls mock , but they shall MOURN!!! (Ether 12:26
Got something to say?
