Glen Beck racist comment has led 36 advertisers to pull out of his show

Conservative Glenn Beck is paying a price for his comment that President Barack Obama is a "racist."  Advertisers have continued to pull out of sponsoring his Fox News television show.  It's a campaign largely led by ColorOfChange, a black political coalition.

Beck also said in a television appearance in late July that Obama has a "deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture."

According to the James Rucker's, founder of ColorofChange blog website, the new companies distancing themselves from Glen Beck's show include Airware Inc. (makers of Brez anti-snoring aids), Ancestry.com, AT&T, Blaine Labs Inc., Campbell Soup Company, Clorox, Ditech, The Elations Company, Experian (creator of FreeCreditReport.com), Farmers Insurance Group, Johnson & Johnson (makers of Tylenol), Lowe's, NutriSystem, Sprint, The UPS Store and Verizon Wireless.

According to ColorofChange 160,000 members have banded together and actively helped to make this situation more well known.  Here are a few comments from advertisers listed on the James Rucker, ColorofChange founder's blog:

"...Sprint ads appeared as part of a broader rotational package of advertising purchased on the Fox Network," said Kathleen Dunleavy, a Sprint spokesperson, in an email to ColorOfChange.org. "They were not specifically targeted to the Glenn Beck Show nor should they air during this program going forward."

"...I wanted to let you know that we have taken steps to make sure that [Sprint] will not be advertising on the Glenn Beck show," Dunleavy later reiterated in a phone message to ColorOfChange.org.

"While we will continue to advertise on news programming, including FOX News, there are certain programs on the FOX Network that do not meet Lowe's advertising guidelines, including The O'Reilly Factor and Glenn Beck Program," said Meliski Cox, a spokesperson for Lowe's, in an email to ColorOfChange.org.

"We have addressed the issue," said Rich Hallibran, a spokesperson for The UPS Store, in a phone message to ColorOfChange.org. "You will not see our ads on The Glenn Beck TV program."

"We are no longer advertising on Beck's program," said Susan McGowan, Senior Director of Public Relations at NutriSystem, Inc., in an email to ColorOfChange.org. "You can now include us with the other companies that have stopped advertising."

In a phone conversation with ColorOfChange.org, a spokesperson for AT&T, Daryl Evans, said that their company already had Beck's program on a 'Do Not Air' list for their ads, and if an advertisement was seen during 'Glenn Beck' it was placed in error. Evans pledged to call Fox News and correct that error.

In a phone conversation with ColorOfChange.org, Marcy Smith, Director of Advertising for Experian Consumer Direct, confirmed that due to the number and frequency of complaints they have received, they have specifically asked Fox News to pull any of their ads from Glenn Beck's program and distribute their ads to other shows in the rotation.

That is not enough. They claim 160,000 members contacted them, well 500,000 of us need to contact these companies and tell them until they reverse the decision we will no longer buy their products.

I am wondering why people would boycott companies who choose not to advertise on Glenn Beck. I have seen him call people racist, completely disrespect women, incite fear and offer no solutions to any issues. That is the issue with some people, they sit here don't read or verify the information for themselves but tell people whatever it takes to make people mad. It is ok to make people mad because there is so much that is wrong with our government, but only after you have done your own research. Going to town-hall meeting and taking control, not allowing anyone to talk is completely disrespectful to everyone attending. This solves nothing and no question get answers. Also, don't believe that these congressmen/congresswomen don't know what is in these bills no matter how long they are. We pay a lot of money to staff these congressmen/congresswomen offices so that that they can do their job.

Just wanted to say wow- since when did Glen Beck tell the truth? I was listening to his show today and I had to turn it off because every other word out of his mouth was blatantly untrue. He is a fear mongerer, and I will support the companies who pull their advertising from such garbage of a show.

I support Glenn Beck's freedom of speech and opinion in the same manner that ColorOfChange supports Jeremiah Wright's "United States of KKK" comment. Jamie Foxx's "we shared him (Michael Jackson) with white people". or even the countless number of rap songs influencing American viewpoints with racial bias. These examples can all justifiably be viewed as "repulsive, divisive, and should not be aired"... but they are. So, count me out of ColorOfChange's hypocritical, biased, and conveniently selective outlandish claim that Beck's opinion should not have been aired.

Personally I feel alienated by any commentator that gets paid exuberant amounts of money to yell their bleeding heads off. I find them nauseating and I hope that this loudmouthed trend ends really soon. Glenn Beck is bad for America.

I am boycotting the companies that pulled the advertising. Does free speech only apply to the liberals? Can someone post the contact info for the companies that pulled off Beck?

Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.

Too bad these advertisers have themselves on a leash and bow to pressure that hasn't even happened yet. I hope that if the economy completely tumbles that these advertisers are the first to go under.

And to the people who think Obama isn't racist...study some black liberation theology and see if you still think he isn't.

apparently it's OXYCONTIN for the fat guy on AM hate radio, and this guy on FAUXNEWS needs some mood-stablizing Lithium for the paranoid delusions. No cure for the racism, though. Sorry Glen, aka (Harold Hill) we outlawed slavery years ago, fought a Civil war over it (are you trying to incite another one??), and you will see a black face in the WH for at least 4 years!

Where was Glenn Beck wrong? Jeremiah Wright and his followers and Barack's relationship Farrakhan seem to be proof positive that Barack is a racist. Why do advertisers succumb to the PC pressures of radical groups? Hope the mainstream quits patronizing those chickenshit businesses. I will!

Thank goodness for Beck, Hannity, and O'Rielly. They're exposing this administration for what it really is. Go do some research on those who surround your prez and research their personal and political views. Can't wait to the 2010 midterms. Repubs will dominate.

What a bunch of hippocrits these companies are. And Color of Change obviously has some racial issues. Freedom of speech and suggesting a person is a racist is not limited to black people.

Obama is so a racist -- I mean look at this stuff that these other guys who are not Obama said!

    Morons...

Glen Beck, on the other hand, talking about "white culture" is using the exact dog-whistle phrase littered throughout White Supremacist literature.

What is "white culture"?! Isn't there simply *AMERICAN* culture?

Van Jones is a self described "black nationalist". Why are so many people defending him in light of this? Do the same people also approve of "white nationalists" in our government or is this a just pure hypocrisy and a crude double standard? Glenn Beck simply showed video of Van Jones speaking. Van Jones took himself down by his hateful comments yet the far left, unable to think rationally blames Beck. That's a classic case of denial if I have ever seen one. Boycotting Glenn are people who have been manipulated by the left and their tactic of trying to silence free speech and framing others as racist if they don't agree with their views. Funny how they flail when Beck called Obama a racist and showed how stupid and gullible advertisers can be when minorities whine.

olor of Change are the real racists who point fingers at and stereotype whites. We are over this tactic and any advertisers who pulled their ads from Beck just show how naive and easily manipulated they are when minorities cry racism.
