Another snow storm hits east coast; hundreds of flights cancelled Tuesday and Wednesday. Philadelphia, Washington DC, Chicago and New York have been hit with another snow storm Tuesday, and hundreds of flights have been cancelled on the east coast. Many travelers scrambled to get out early Tuesday morning before the snow began to fall again.
CNN’s meteorologist, Rob Marciano said Tuesday morning: "If you're traveling today or later tomorrow through D.C., New York or Philadelphia, you're going to want to take pre-emptive action and potentially call and try to get out today because tomorrow looks to be a bit of a mess for those airports."
Chicago’s O’Hare airport cancelled about 500 flights early Tuesday and delays were expected for those flights that still attempted to get out.
Delta planned on a reduction in flights to Washington and Philadelphia beginning Tuesday afternoon, and cancelled 375 flights nationwide. American airlines cancelled 80 flights in and out of Philadelphia and Washington DC for Tuesday night, and 120 flights on Wednesday.
For travelers who have been trying to get out of the east coast since Friday, this was devestating news. The airports have been trying to re-accommodate people from over the weekend. And depending on the weather Tuesday night and Wednesday, additional flights may be cancelled.
Most of the airlines are waiving their change ticket polices because of the weather. And all of the airlines have encouraged passengers to call their airline before heading to the airport for a flight Tuesday or Wednesday.
Up to 20 inches of snow is expected Tuesday and Wednesday in some areas of the east coast. This is after a record breaking 32.4 inches of snow in Washington DC over the weekend.
Salt Lake City was expecting several inches of snow and rain over the weekend, but the weather was mostly clear. The next few days the forecast looks mostly sunny with some clouds. Friday there is a chance of snow in northern Utah.
