Pennsylvania's Punxsutawney Phil has something in common with Raleigh, but Staten Island's Chuck claims otherwise. A beginning mix overshadows results in confusion this Groundhog Day.
"Don't shoot the messengers!"
The nation and Nova Scotia, thus far, shares a tally of 5 more weeks of winter versus 6 early springs with more to come. Groundhog Day is an early celebration for many.
Groundhog Day 2010 Predictions:
Jimmy from Wisconsin, General Beauregard Lee (General Lee) from Georgia, Woodstock Willie from Illinois, Dunkirk Dave from N.Y., Buckeye Chuck from Ohio all predict an early spring. Buckeye Chuck is known by many as Punxsutawney's cousin.
Meanwhile Malverne from N.Y., Wairton Willie from Ontario, Spanish Joe from Ontario, Shubenacadie Sam from Nova Scotia predicts six more weeks of winter. And then comes Pennsylvania's famous Punxsutawney Phil and Staten Island's Chuck predictions.
Punxsutawney Phil's Groundhog Day appeared at Gobbler's Knob as Phil sported a wet runny nose. However, Punxsutawney Phil appeared to be quite comfortable as anticipation grew amongst the crowd.
Today's Groundhog Day can be compared to Bill Murray's famous words in the movie Groundhog Day. "Winter slumbering in the open air wears on it's smiling face a dream of spring. Ciao."
Punxsutawney Phil was gently lifted in front of the massive crowd with breaking news. "Six more weeks of winter!"
Staten Island Chuck is a favorite in Staten Island, New York. Chuck was cheered by the five boroughs for predicting an early spring. Chuck sees no shadow!
Connecticut's Chuckles, just over 1-years-old, has been noted to have permanent neurological damage by museum Director Bob Eckert. This brings many questions as to if she will be a good source on Groundhog Day. Chuckles will still have her day in the sun according to Courant.
Raleigh's winter does not seem to be leaving as Raleigh residents agree with Punxsutawney Phil, six weeks of winter!
Raleigh has just experienced a weekend snow storm with accumulations reaching 5" in some areas. So far two days of school closings and delays marks a short school week for children. This upcoming weekend is said to offer rain with possible freezing rain and some traces of snow for Raleigh.
As Groundhog Day continues to wind down overshadowed by confusion of predictions, two things are for sure. Those furry shadow seekers are the celebrities of the day and Raleigh's 2010 Groundhog Day sees no spring in sight.

My Groundhog named Scooter, in Bloomington, Indiana says we will have an early spring!
Great minds must think alike ;-) I penned a similar article..wish I read this first. Well done!
What season is it going to be.
Since I'm originally from Staten Island, NY, I always thought Staten Island Chuck was a local thing, until I moved to New England and realized people who don't live in NY still know about Staten Island Chuck...Staten Island Chuck is well known and has a better track record that Pux Phil....Chuck has been right at least 85% of the time, with a much lower percentage for Phil. Sorry, Phil.
Got something to say?
