Editor & Publisher closing, bold changes in media's global giant Nielsen Company

Editor & Publisher, one of global giant Nielsen Company's most prominent media trade journals, is closing after 108 years.

Nielsen Co. is headquartered in New York, NY.  Active in over 100 countries.  In 2008 Nielsen's revenue reached $5 billion.  Nielsen is widely known as one of the world's leading suppliers of marketing information.  Nielsen connects individuals to media information, TV ratings, mobile use, trade shows and business publications such as Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter. 

David L. Calhoun, Nielsen Co.'s Chairman of the Executive Board and Chief Executive Officer, does not debate the new changes, it's better for business financially.  Nielsen has branched off in the past cutting the company in two separate directions.  However, Nielsen remained on top.  The changes may not be such a bad move after all, even if you wished it never would occur.

Arthur C. Nielsen named the Nielsen Company "AC Nielsen Company" in 1923.  Back then his idea was to sell engineering performance surveys.  The AC Nielsen Co. expanded ten years later and the rest is history.  The Nielsen family still is the center of business so the made a change along the way exchanging AC Nielsen to be titled Nielsen. 

In 2008 the Nielsen Co. began IAG research focused on viewer engagement with TV commercials.  A bold move from Nielsen.  Nielsen invested in NeuroFocus.  NeuroFocus has their goal set towards neuroscience brainwave techniques of consumer research.  It's a fancy way of saying they want to know what you are thinking from the depths of your mind.

Other than the history and the 2008 investment "who" else is going to be altered through these Nielsen changes?

Kirkus Reviews has offered readers book reviews upon release.  However, they too are facing cuts in Nielsen's plans due to low potential in growth. 

The Nielsen Company changes also consist of selling eight titles to is e5 Global Media LLC according to Associated Press.  Pluribus Capital Management and Guggenheim Partners has teamed up to create e5 Global Media LLC. 

The motto seems to be "go where the money flows like oceans of wine."  As Nielsen has always done in the past, it's looking out for it's best financial future.  The same logic that Arthur Nielsen applied when Nielsen was founded in 1923.
