Earthquake shakes California on the same day a bomb scare shook Times Square New York

An earthquake epicenter has been located in Mexico that shook Baja today and portions of California along the border.  The epicenter was 25 miles from El Centro California with the magnitude of 5.8 followed by aftershocks of 4.8.  Some reports have ranged the magnitude at 5.9.  However, the USGS has recorded nothing higher for that region at that time above 5.8.

The West Coast and Alaskan Tsunami Center has not issued warnings of a potential tsunami.  Landslides under the water can be created by the measures of the intense shaking.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has been monitoring this earthquake ever since it began at 10:49 a.m. California local time.

No casualties have been reported, damage is being processed.  Thanks to technology earthquakes today, including the earthquake that shook California, can be tagged for further research.  More information is expected.  Visit USGS for a complete listing of earthquakes today or go to Geology.com for today's earthquake information.

But that's not the only shaking going on today.

Times Square New York - An abandoned 1992 Dodge van located on Broadway, between 41st and 42nd street in New York, created quite a fiasco today.  The patrol officers noted the suspicious vehicle in Times Square.  A commitment to evacuation was met as the area was cleared out to view the contents inside of the Times Square van.

The fear of bombs was a reality sparked by the Christmas Day bomber.  No one wanted to take their chances to find out the hard way that perhaps they could have avoided a van blowing up a portion of New York.  Times Square shut down temporarily to allow authorities to investigate.

As it were the police used a robotic bomb search resulting in no findings of any dangers in sight as reported through The Wall Street Journal.  The van had no tags and was considered suspicious as soon as it had been spotted.

Just after 1 p.m., only hours after the van was spotted, New Yorkers were asked to continue their daily routine and allowed back into their offices, including Nasdaq.  The Times Square bomb scare just goes to show that America is still on her toes when it comes to a potentially dangerous situation.

Even though California braces for what Mexico has to offer, New York can rest assure that if anything is going to shake the city during New Year's Eve, it's going to be the clock striking midnight.

Many predictions are for a massive earthquake in California in 2010, most of them for the LA area. If that doesnt scare you, then consider this: in 2001, FEMA predicted three massive disasters for the US within the next decade. 1) a massive terrorist attack on New York and it's aftermath, 2) a massive flood in New Orleans and it's aftermath, and 3)a massive earthquake in the SF Bay area and it's aftermath. This is the last year of that prediction's decade. Judge for yourself.
