The Names of 3300 Pedophile Priests accused of sexual abuse, are now available on bishopaccountability.org. An online registry of sex offending priests and clergy, the website makes these lists available to the public. Victims asked the Roman Catholic Church to release more information on Monday in a Providence news conference.
Providence, Rhode Island News Conference
A news conference was held outside a Providence church on Monday, December 28th. Two victims, Helen McGonigle and Jeffrey Thomas, both 48, stood on the steps of Saints Peter and Paul church, and asked the Roman Catholic Church to release more information regarding priests accused of sexual molestation. Alleged sexual abuse and rape victims complained that Bishop Thomas Tobin was not forthcoming with the names of Irish priests accused of sexual abuse. Tobin was not available for comment.
Irish Priest Father Brendan Smyth
McGonigle and Thomas claim they were raped by Reverend Brendan Smyth while he was assigned to Our Lady of Mercy in East Greenwich from 1965 to 1968. Smyth was a visiting Irish priest in the late 1960s when he began raping McGonigle and Thomas. They were six years old at the time. The projo.com reports, "Smyth had been sent to Rhode Island in 1965 after molesting children in Northern Ireland. Smyth was charged with 74 counts in the Republic of Ireland and 17 in Northern Ireland." Smyth was accused and convicted of rape and child molesting, and died in 1997 in a Belfast prison.
The projo.com continues, "On Monday, the group (McGonigle, Thomas and two others) posted a list of Irish priests who have worked in the United States and have been accused of sexual misconduct. And bishopaccountability.org sent letters to Cardinal Sean O’Malley of the Boston archdiocese and Bishop Thomas Tobin of the Providence diocese, asking that they search their personnel files for information about accused Irish priests who had served in their areas."
Providence Diocese
The Providence Diocese issued an announcement saying, "For a short time in the 1960s, he ( Rev. Smyth) was in ministry at Our Lady of Mercy Parish in East Greenwich. He was never a priest of the Diocese of Providence."

He was interviewed by the press on December, 11th, 2009 in front of the Vatican regarding the recent sex-abuse scandal in Ireland. Comments
Thanks to the website Bishopaccountability.org, the public has access to names of credibly accused and offending clergy. 2010 is a good year to continue cleaning house and holding the Catholic heirarchy accountability for damage done when a diocese failed to take action with predators and 'passed the buck.'
I was educated at Blackrock College, where Dev and McQuaid went as well, in Dublin during the 60s. Underlying all the abuse is a misogynist attitude towards women. There will be no change until that changes.
I am thankfull for the "BishopAccountablity" web site, the catholic church will never, ever tell the "TRUTH". The catholic church will continue to hide these "MONSTERS" and the faithful who attend church and donate are funding this evil conduct.
It is about time the fruits of the Catholic Church are finally being exposed! Through lawsuits and making such an investigation public knowledge is a welcome step! Why was such a perversion covered up for so long by an organization that claims to be the guardian of Christian ethics and morals? What about the victims and their families who were deeply and emotionally traumatized?! And let us not forget the alienation from God in society caused by such bastions of religious faith! Where does the responsibility lie for all this? Enforced celibacy has no biblical foundation at all! What would Jesus of Nazareth say if He came to the Earth and saw what the church which claims to speak for Him has made of His lifes work? A move has been made by a small group in Germany called The Free Christians for the Christ of the Sermon on the Mount in All Cultures Worldwide is against such shameful sham Christianity. ? A move has been made by a small group in Germany called The Free Christians for the Christ of the Sermon on the Mount in All Cultures Worldwide is against such shameful sham Christianity. They announce a lawsuit against the Catholic Church and the sexual abuse of young people is one of the reasons they give for having taken such a step. As they put it, they do not want to remain silent anymore on the brazen labelling fraud, with which Christ is mocked and His name abused to such an extent. They demand that the Catholic Church no longer call itself Christian. As a Christian, I fully support this and consider it high time that someone calls a spade a spade. Nothing against the sincere folk and priests who work hard and honestly, upholding the ideals of a Christian life. But as an institution, it has taken on a life of its own, and one could indeed ask if there is anything Christian about it! I commend the courage of these people to call the Church to task. As of this date, four Irish bishops have resigned for, as I understand it, not taking action when they became aware of child abusers in their dioceses. And, as I understand it, not a single U.S. bishop has had the integrity to do the same (this excludes Cardinal Bernard Law, who was practcally driven out of Boston by pressure from his own clergy and others, but who, nonetheless now has a cushy job in Rome where, among his other duties he can advise on the appointments of bishops in the U.S.). That's as I understand it, and of course, I can NOT understand it.
these people are frauds and the church should expose them
