BP Admits Top Kill Didn't Work
Video: American's were glued to the oil spill live feed since Wednesday, waiting and hoping for Top Kill to stop the leak from gushing hundreds of thousands of gallons of crude into the Gulf of Mexico. BP admitted today, that Top Kill didn't work in its attempt to plug the leak with a mud-like mixture.

Twice the Size of the Exxon Valdez Disaster
Since the April 20, 2010 explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig, as many as 798,000 gallons of crude were gushing into the ocean every day. The Gulf oil spill is now considered to be twice the size of the Exxon Valdez disaster. The Exxon Valdez tanker ran aground in Prince William Sound, Alaska, on March 24, 1989.
The Next Step? Lower Marine Riser Package
CNN.com reports that, "The next option is to place a custom-built cap known as the "lower marine riser package" over the leak, the company's chief operating officer, Doug Suttles said. BP crews were working Saturday to ready the materials for that option should it become necessary, he said. We've been prepping that all along in case we need to move to that option," he said. "People want to know which technique is going to work, and I don't know."
Obama Says, "We Want To Stop The Leak"
President Barack Obama toured the area on Friday after his conference where he claimed to take responsibility of the situation. President Obama assured reporters, "We want to stop the leak, we want to contain and clean up the oil and we want to help the people in this region return to their lives and livelihoods as soon as possible."
Gulf Oil Spill Bigger than Rhode Island
In a recent article, it was noted that the Gulf oil spill is now bigger than Rhode Island. In fact, the image of the spill was superimposed over a Google map of New England. The spill was so big, it engulfed all of Rhode Island, portions of Massachusetts, including Boston, portions of Connecticut, including Hartford and extending into New Hampshire. Will the Gulf Oil Spill Reach Rhode Island?
Are the beaches and coastline of Rhode Island in danger? According to University of Rhode Island scientist Malcolm Spaulding, R.I. should be fine. Unless the Loop Current could carry the spill around Florida, the state of Rhode Island should be fine he said. Spaulding says "chances are remote that the spill could effect the East Coast."

If the top kill fails, I would suggest encasing hundreds of tons of broken-up concrete and rocks and cement in steel netting, and lowering it over the BOP, after cutting the riser near the connection point. And then lower another load, then another, until completly buried, and oil flow stopped. And don't wait for the leak to stop before the clean-up operation! Seems like the entire Navy and Coast Guard should have been out there weeks ago.
Sending all kinds of debris over the source of the spill was doomed from the start because of all the spaces that would be created in the pile through which the oil could leak. What does the oil company do to control the flow of newly drilled oil wells?
No Expert,so forgive me if this is just to far out. I know 18 wheelers use rubber air bags for there shock system. Would it not be possible to use something similar except longer, insert it into the pipe then quickly fill it with air and plug it?
This is PATHETIC! A billion dollar company has no idea how to fix this?We need to give them every resource possible including help from other countries!Fix this and fix it fast.They seem like they are taking their time,and I think the other poster is right,they are STALLING!Hurry up BP fix it or the government will seize you and your precious oil driller.
with all this time they could have built a temporary flexable line and loaded the oil on tanker ships and hauled it to the refineries. man i am gonna hate paying this bail-out!!

Top kill only works in the very beginning NOT this far after the fact
The only solution>>> Drill down to just below the casing from a side angel detonate a explosive to collapse the well this will slow the leak then reenter the well below this area and squeeze the cement to seal off the formation
the bad news is you stand a good chance of loosing the field.

This just proves what the environmental community has been saying all along.The industry is in bed with the regulatory agencies and there are sweetheart deals been given to use unproven technology as the backup for things like drilling in the arctic reserve.This,as we can all see is total insanity.The last pristine part of the planet would be put in jeopardy to feed the need for oil.There should be no more drilling in any place where it can not be demonstrated in real time that there are working safeguards.This was alluded to in the case of the gulf well by BP who were obviously lying.This shows me that when it comes to money there are no stops put out by this or any administration.It's enough and it has to stop.BP has to be made to pay all costs for the disaster.It won't greatly affect their bottom line as the billion they have spent to today is nothing to BP.

i'm not too worried, they will learn how to plug the hole as soon as the well is dry... this whole situation is crap, and their crazy ideas were doomed from the start. They are just trying random ideas because they don't know what to do and doing something, even if its destine for failure, looks better to the public. they knew the "big funnel" thing wouldn't work but they tried it anyway. and the "top kill" idea (pumping mud into the hole)... well lets see, you have a ton of crap flying out of the hole so your going to pump mud into the flow and not expect the oil to carry it along with it???? For some reason i didn't expect the oil industry to be as bad as the banks, i remember at one time we thought they knew what they were doing too... At least the truth is starting to come out.
unfortunately, it doesn't even matter who's fault this is (BP yes, but also the regulatory branch in the government, and all of us that feed the demand for oil) we ALL have to deal with it now...
Navy and Coast Guard have nothing to do with environmental control, containment, or cleanup. This is an industry screw up on a colossal scale and now everone is acting shocked that it has happened. What the heck do people expect when you have regulatory arms and politicians getting "kick-backs" to vote against certain bills and for others? To say this is an ecological nightmare of epic proportions is an understatement and it really doesn't matter how we label this disaster anymore. The real disaster are the dispersants being used to settle slick as clumps and particulates a few meters below the surface so that it doesn't contanminate beaches and what not. This is all nonesense and to stay glued to the television expecting a miracle is about as useful as holding your breath so you don't suck in CFCs and hydrocarbons - it's here, and it's happening. Is this a wake-up call to the industry? Nope, it's just another indicator of stupidy and arrogance. No contingency plans for this?!

HEY, I got an idea, why not just turn the valve off! Bumb #*&^&^%$#%
BP pumped mud down a pipe to attempt thier top kill. This pipe had to be quite large as the pumped a very high rates (65 bpm). This mud entered below th blind rams which they were unable to plug with thier junk shot and a portion of the mud came out the BOP's. the remainder of the mud was pumped down the wellbore. It would seem simplle to flow the well up this pipe as the seawater is exerting a pressure of near 2400 psi at the BOP's and the flowing oil and gas gradient would be sufficiently light enough to allow a quite high flow rate. If the pressure at the Bop's was pulled down below the seawater pressure the BOP's could be plugged from the outside and the well flowed at a sufficient rate to stop the spill. I have attempted to submit this idea to BP but have not had any responce
those fools at BP need to call boots @ boots ,iron workers,and millwrights in the steel mill,and water/gas workers and let those guys figure out how to stop the leak. A pencil pusher does not know what will works to plug that gusher, all he knows is what works on paper

In one picture it showed a pipe comming from the sea bead with a flang with six to eight bolts holding it to the riser pipe flang which was connected to the broken pipe. build a new connecting flang with a section of pipe and a valve (valve open)attached. Disconnect the flang with the broken pipe and connect the new flang with the open valve. once connected close valve.
This sounds simple but I have seen it work on several wells where the pressure was too great and pipe damage prevented normal shut down.
With BP reporting record profits every quarter last year they should have plenty of money to get this sh** figured out fast !!!!!!!
Apply a hydraulically operated flange clamp to damaged pipe Hydraulically operated new pipe end will slide sideways slowly cutting oil flow path and diverting flow to new pipe. A pin and radius keyway lock should hold.

Real Leadership by this President and his administration would have been to temporarily suspend the U S Environmental regulations that prevent massive and rapid at sea oil clean-up and removal using proven methods by Dutch companies (Google: Gulf Oil Spill Response Team for reference).
This could have been done early on in the first 5 -10 days while still giving priority to kill the underwater oil flow leak, resulting in the removal of as much as 95 to 98 % of the oil at sea and preventing it from coming ashore. The Dutch Companies (experienced in employing high-capacity oil spill recovery systems suitable for use in open oceans) as well as the Valdez Star & Shearwater Oil Skimmers could have been deployed and at work now instead of the very small scale type oil skimming and boom operations that have finally been

bp just refused to get help from russia , they have offered advansed undersea mashine , that they been using to fix technical problems under deep sea depth .
What is done is done, it won't help to complain, but we all use oil if we drive and buy gas. Just please pray that someone will figure out how to stop the oil leak and pray for those who are going to have to clean up this diaster . It is mind boggling of the enormity of the cleanup that will have to be done. I hope whoever has to clean up the mess has the support needed to deal with what they have to go through to fix the mess.
Drill hole beside well. Bout 100 feet down into the seafloor bedrock. Put huge conventional bomb into hole. Fill hole with cement. Blow up bomb. The rock will seal off the well.

Now just a thought here but, if this leak had been on a land based oil platform I believe they would simply just close the valve right??? Why can't the federal government take charge of just the clean up and then back-charge BP for costs. Let BP handle the leak and do what is necessary to stop it. THEY are the experts on drilling and fixing the problem.
