Chellie Pingree, the representative from Maine's 1st Congressional District, introduced herself to the Colbert Nation last night.
Pingree was featured in the 57th installment of The Colbert Report's "Better Know a District" segment in which the satiric pundit is attempting to interview all 434 of the country's congressional representatives. As reported here last month, Pingree spent a lengthy time with Colbert in New York City in July taping the interview, the contents of which were edited down to only a few minutes for the Comedy Central show.
Lobsters, Canada, and gay marriage were among the topics discussed during the interview. Pingree had to convince Colbert that the entire state of Maine was contained in the United States and not in a Canadian province and that the state's recent legalization of same-sex marriage would not be a "gateway to lobster marriage." Colbert also forced Pingree to defend her vote on the cap-and-trade bill which encourages states to use alternative energy sources like wind power.
Didn't catch the interview. Not to worry. You can watch it right here!

I wonder if Chellie is aware that we the people of Maine do NOT need her, or any other political figure to strap us with debt to the federal government? Does she not know that she is helping to enslave the very people that voted for her? What part of the phrase "We take care of our own here" does she not understand? Politicians need to get out of our faces and allow us to be the great people that we are.
