Deltona High School Student Killed in Rollover Accident on I-4

A 15 year-old Deltona High School student died Friday when a pickup he was riding in the bed of overturned on I-4 near Saxon Boulevard and Exit 111A.

Tyler Dreiling was riding in the bed of the truck that was being driven westbound by classmate Christopher Bader, 18, who lost control of the truck around 3PM. According to the Florida Highway Patrol Bader overcorrected while trying to gain control of the truck and hit the guardrail causing the truck to overturn. Dreiling was ejected on impact and pronounced dead at the scene.

Bader sustained minor injuries while his passenger Jose Calderon, 18, was seriously injured. Both were transported to Halifax Health Medical Center for treatment. The report states Bader and Calderon were both wearing their seat belts when the accident happened.

The crash tied up traffic on the interstate for several hours due to the large amount of pieces from the truck blocking all lanes.

FHP is still investigating and have not decided whether to pursue charges against the driver. Florida Law states it is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to be riding in the bed of a pickup truck or unrestrained in a pickup truck.

I know the this boy's family and they are a wonderful, loving family. They are still in such disbelief and how cruel is it to have to figure out details for burying your son? Please say a prayer for them during this difficult time. It's the worst thing to lose a child to something so tragic.
God Bless you guys! And give a tighter hug to your children tonight!

Thank you Frankie and Tracy for your comments. It's an awful tragedy to lose a child in a way like this and at such a young age. As a former student of Deltona High School myself I know this will be a hard thing for students to deal with at such a tight knit school. I know how hard it is to lose a friend who is just starting their life, it's hard and it really stinks. Prayers to this young mans family and friends.

I don't know that family but my prayer for them is for God to but His loving arms around them at this difficult time. And this proves why it is important to always tell the ones you love, that you love them because our days are not promised. Don't take it for granted. God Bless.
