Police from the 50th Precinct were called to a Kingsbridge Terrace apartment for a report of a woman stabbed to the chest; the woman later died.

According to an NYPD spokesperson, police were called to 2899 Kingsbridge Terrace, at 2:01 a.m., on Saturday, February 27. "Upon arrival responding officers discovered the victim, a female Hispanic, 33, with multiple stab wounds to her chest," reported the official, who continued, "EMS also responded and transported the victim to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival."

The victim was later identified as Magdalenia Cordero, 33, a resident of the building. Police would also announce the arrest of Tamesha Spellman, 32, who lived in the apartment where Cordero was found.

One resident of the building stated he did not know the victim, but said of Spellman, "I saw her sometimes. She wasn't always bad, she always said, 'Hi,' to us when we came back from school." The resident added, "She wasn't violent, we never saw her like that."
