While he hasn't yet launched an advertising campaign on television, John Georges, is the leader in campaign contributions for the upcoming mayor's race to date. Georges, a millionaire himself, has raised more than $530,000 according to news reports.
Georges ran for governor of Louisiana in 2007 but didn't win. He has since decided to make a run for the mayor's race in New Orleans, LA. Contributions listed on the claims form were all from recent donations from others. Georges has yet to put in any personal funding for the mayor's race, as he did for his run for governor.
James Perry, another candidate for the mayor's seat also had new contributions to disclose. Perry raised close to $90,000 in this last reporting cycle.
Georges plans to start his media blitz in December with a television advertising campaign.
There are still other candidates that have not officially registered for the race. Rob Couhig is among this group. Couhig made an unsuccessful run for the mayor's seat in 2006 against Nagin. Couhig has yet to make an official announcement saying he will be running for mayor of New Orleans.
Another candidate to watch is former Civil District Judge, Nadine Ramsey, who resigned in order to put her name in the pool for mayor candidates. Ramsey's total for fundraising was a bit over $188,000, which also included a personal loan to help finance the campaign efforts.
