Fourth of July events in the New Orleans area

Have you made plans for your Fourth of July holiday weekend?  There are several events going on in the greater New Orleans area that will make for an entertaining weekend and also enhance the normal "fireworks" celebration that most indulge in to celebrate the 4th of July.

Events start on Friday, July 3, 2009 and some are even free!  Take a look at the findings and make a list of the things you want to do!

Uncle Sam Jam  at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, LA offers a free night of entertainment including several concerts and fireworks at 9:00 pm.  Call 905.4667 for a list of bands.

Fontainebleau State Park will be the scene for the Greater Mandeville Seafood Festival.  The festival will include lots of good food, arts and crafts, a fishing rodeo, fireworks displays and much more!  For more information check out their website at Mandeville Seafood Festival.

The Slidell Heritage Festival will take place in Heritage Park starting at 3:00 pm.  Music, food, games and a playground for the children will be featured.  Concert tickets can be purchased for only $7.00 each, children free with adult admission.  All proceeds will be donated to charity.  A fireworks show will start at 9:00 pm over the bayou.  Call 985.643.1234 for more information.

Independence Day Fest at the Treasure Chest Casino in Kenner, LA.  The festival features fireworks over Lake Ponchartrain at 9:00 pm with free concerts following the fireworks display.

Go Fourth on the River is sponsored by the Riverfront Marketing Group which sponsors free concerts along the Riverfront all day, good food and fireworks over the Mississippi from the "dueling barges" at 9:00 pm.  For a schedule of events visit www.Go4thOnThe River.com.

    Who cares about Essence.... That's in New Orleans has nothing to do with 4th of July.......That's what the story is about.... NOT ESSENCE FEST.....!!!!!!!!!!!!
