Zhu Zhu hamster a big, hot item this Christmas

A Zhu Zhu hamster is a robotic toy hamster that many children want this holiday season. Like so many other hot toys, it’s not quite certain why the Zhu Zhu hamsters have created such a buzz. However, chances are your child wants one of these little robotic pets this year. Although they are hard to find, with a little determination you can find them.

Luckily, if your child wants a Zhu Zhu they only cost between $8-$10. When available, they are sold at store such as Walmart, Target, and Toys R US. Although I will provide a list of retailers where Zhu Zhu’s can be available, I strongly urge you to call ahead of time to inquire if they have the little robots in stock.

That being said, the Zhu Zhu boasts the title of the “Hottest Christmas Toy of the Year.” Although we probably won’t see the same fights over these little hamsters that we did back in the 90’s when Tickle Me Elmo came out, parents that have to hunt these critters down may have to pay a premium. Online retailers and auction sites such as Amazon and eBay are selling these toys for a premium.

If you want to purchase these robotic hamsters, don’t forget accessories! Adventure balls and hamster fun houses are all available to make your robotic pets feel at home.

If your child wants a Zhu Zhu this Christmas, look at the bright side: they don’t want a live hamster. There’s no feeding, cleaning out a cage, and worrying about your child getting bit by an overgrown rodent. They are a pet without the problems, and well worth it in my book.

Ever See A House Plant MOVE When You Tickle It?
With all the fuss over the new Zhu Zhu hamster, I also see the debate growing about getting a toy hamster over a real hamster. My daughter actually preferred a nice compromise - a plant that they grew in her school biology class. It's called the TickleMe Plant she told me the scientiific name was Mimosa pudica but now it can be grow as a house plant indoors in the TickleMe Plant Greenhouse.
Excitedly, she showed me the TickleMe Plant website and I was hooked. They show a video of this tropical plant closing its leaves and even lowering it's branches when tickled or when water droplets hit the leaves. No batteries required - just mother nature at its best. Search the net or you can go here if they are still in stock ticklemeplant.com You won't believe your eyes. It's a real challenge to the Zhu Zhu

This is a great article. Also very true that these adorable Zhu Zhu Pets are quite elusive! I've learned a few hints to be able to buy these at regular retail price and would love to share the info:
How To Find Zhu Zhu Pets for a Low Price. I hope it can help out someone on the hunt!

Also there are some sneak peeks of what may be coming this next year in the way of new woodland pets (including chipmunks!) and playsets (including an airport and pizza parlor!) They are adorable and I know this craze will continue well into the Spring and Summer of 2010.

I agree with the fact that they are MUCH better than a real, live rodent :) I checked out the Tickle Me Plant and you cannot compare them to the Zhu Zhu hamster. That plant will get old and quite boring after oh, about an hour maybe? At least the hamster has a variety of functions and keeps kids entertained. I haven't done any research on the Tickle Me Plant but I would be willing to be that it's related to the Venus Fly Trap... :)

They're definitely the hot toy of this holiday season. I heard that Toys 'R Us will be having some in stock for Black Friday. You can also get them on reseller sites like gogozhuzhupets.net.
