Shaniya Davis's funeral will be open to the public, which means that many individuals sadded and horrified by Shaniya Davis's death will be able to pay their respects to the 5 year old and her father, Bradley Lockhart.
The Shaniya Davis funeral is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Manna Church located at 5117 Cliffdale Road in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Although we are about 9 1/2 hours away from the funeral (almost 600 miles), a few Nashville citizens are likely planning to make the trip.
Do you think the funeral should be public, or do you think it should be a private fanily event? Given the family involvement of her death - her own mother was behind her disappearance after all - I think it is completely appropriate that there will be a public funeral. Shaniya Davis needs to look down from heaven and know that she was loved very much by the public and general and that no one supported her death.
Mario Andrette McNeil has been charged with the murder of Shaniya Davis. He was last seen with the young girl on a hotel surveillance camera. He was carrying her and I have not been able to find a report that indicates whether Shaniya was alive or dead when filmed.
Shaniya's body was found alongside a North Carolina highway. Autopsy reports indicate that she was raped and murdered the same day she disapeared. Her cause of death was asphyxiation.
Shanyia Davis's funeral will be very, very sad. The bright side to the story is that the alleged killer has been located and charged and justice will be served.

I think that her mother should be made to see Shaniyas body. not to morn her but to see and paint a everlasting picture in her mind of what she has done to her very own daughter.

I think a public funeral for Shaniya is appropriate here. So many people who didn't know this beautiful little girl have been impacted by her senseless tragic death. I can't stop thinking about her; haven't been able to get a good night's sleep since they found her body. I grieve for her and her family and if I could I would make that trip to pay my respects. I'm glad the funeral is open so that others might do so.
This story brings me to tears every time I think of it. And I just heard about it last night watching Oprah. I am sending out a prayer chain via email, if I lived closer, I would probably have gone. What has our world come to??!! I think it is wonderful that it is public to bring support and love for a beautiful Innocent girl who left the world in such a tragic way. Sending Love to her father and aunt and prayers to the sick individuals who could do such a horrid act!

I am saddened so much by what happened to this little angel...All I can think of is the horror this little baby must have experienced in her short life here on earth. As a mother, I can't believe someone could put their child in harms way. Its just a reminder of just how cruel and horrible this world can be. How do you take a 5 year old baby and rape and strangle her to death....how

I'm glad it's open to the public. I would attend if I lived closer. This child captured the hearts of people all over the country. It's like she suddenly became our child and we could do nothing to help or save her. So very tragic, sad.

Lisa Trail, I think the same thing. It's hard to try an imagine how a person, another human can take a child for the sole purpose of raping her and then just snuff the life out of her and not feel bad about it or not have one iota of sympathy for a dying or hurt child. From a psych standpoint, it's hard to even understand WHY a person would do this. Is it an urge, a power thing, what is it? Just picturing this guy going thru the acts of his crimes it's amazing how a person could go thru with it. We have no use for people like thi. They aren't even human imo.

Shaniya was alive on the tape. I am a forensic analyst and looking at the tape there are several things that let you know she was alive (the fact she was holding her head up and turned at one point looking at the elevator, and she has her hand on the suspects shoulder). Also, I agree with Stacy that they should have forced the mother to see her body before funeral preparations and have that lasting image in her mind for the day she ever comes to her senses.

I WANNA CRY EVERY DAY
For some reason I think we have come to a turning point with this crime. I believe many people have finally come to the place that they will do what ever it takes to put person who is guilty, beyond a reasonable doubt, and have the perp put to death. Over the years I have read about many crimes against children, but this one seems to have hit a cord.
I'm mad and sad at the same time, but i'm also comforted knowing that child does not have to live in this evil world with evil people anymore, people are so mad at the mom, you must understand a crack addict does not stop being a crack addict just because you bring a child around, her first and only love is her next hit, sad but true, i have them in my family and they don't get emotionally attached to anything especially reality. Everyone failed this child on both sides, it's enough blame to go around but for now God has his baby back and i think that's the safest place she could ever be.

I want to hear that murder charges are placed on Antoinette Davis. IMO, she is just as culpable for the murder of Shaniya as this evil monster Mario McNeil. Antionette Davis knew she was giving her daughter to McNeil to be held in sexual servitude in lieu of an alleged drug debt. She gave her child knowing she would be raped, there are just no comforting words I have for this evil thing you call a mother. Justice is only half served. When the so called mother gets her charges for the murder of Shaniya, and are shown to be guilty at trial, then Shainya gets justice. I implore the North Carolina police department to find a legal manuever to charge Antoinette Davis for the murder of Shaniya Davis...

Please, please, please hand the mother, Mario and even the father over to me. I bet I can handle the situation for you. I am hurt deeply and very angry about this baby and ALL children who fall into the hands of predators who deceive, hurt, and kill our babies. My hope is that the Lord lifted her spirit out of her body before he (Mario) raped her. My suggestion is to put the guilty parties in POPULATION ASAP! No need to spend tax payers money on anyone that brutal. Any way, I think the length of time spent on death row for anyone should not exceed 365 days.
