Public consultations for the Bonaventure Expressway begin tomorrow
Public consultations on the Bonaventure expressway’s facelift between Saint-Jacques and Brennan Streets will begin tomorrow.
The Société du Havre de Montréal will be presenting its pre-project design report for the $147 million proposal, which plans to transform the expressway into an arterial urban road complete with an $86 million public transit corridor along Dalhousie Street.
The land freed up by the renovations would be devoted to building 20-story apartment complexes.
Foreboding issues
According to Le Devoir, the public transit corridor will be a likely cause of contention at the consultations since there will be a visibility issue at intersections, among other administrative and technical problems.
The project’s overall costs are also likely to rise due to precautionary measures to prevent damage to surrounding historical buildings, according to a report released less than two weeks ago and obtained by La Presse.
Consultation details
Tomorrow is the first of the project’s three hearings. The second will be held on Thursday, Nov. 26 and will deal with viability and liveability issues. The third on Dec. 1 will address transportation issues, including the public transit corridor. Finally, the presentation of briefs will begin on Jan. 12.
Tomorrow’s hearing will be held at 7 p.m. at Cathédrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde at 1110 Mansfield Street near Bonaventure metro. For more information visit the Office de Consultation Publique de Montréal’s website.

Comments
Great that you are writing about the Bonaventure and the Dalhousie Corridor but your survey doesnt make sense. Putting too expensive together with 4 lanes instead of 3 makes no sense.
Its just too expensive and makes no sense!!!
this article is very perceptive. the above comment is nonsensical. firedup must be bedbound and bored.
4 lanes would make more sense, and it's kinda too expensive.
To all concerned citizens:
The Dalhousie corridor is a mistake waiting to happen. It must be rejected by the citizens of Mtl for the following reasons:
It will unnecessarily cost over 10 times what the average North American bus corridor costs,
It will create an even greater barrier effect between the South West and Ville-Marie boroughs,
It will INCREASE the overall amount of carbon emissions in the neighbourhood, and
It will require the expropriation of over 35,000 square feet of land.
Please take the time to visit our website at www griffintown org / dalhousie
Your participation is greatly appreciated.
UPDATE:
The AMT, who is supposed to pay for the Dal corridor, is now estimating its cost to be around 119M$ ! With all the expropriations required, the Dal corridor is likely to cost more than the Bonaventure project. This info is available in the AMT's latest trienial imobilisation plan (PTI) for 2010-2012.
