Tiger Woods has finally made a statement about the early Friday morning crash that has left many questions yet to be answered. He did, however, cancel a meeting with the Florida Highway Patrol for the third day in a row. Neither Tiger or his wife, Elin Nordegren, have given a statement to the police regarding the accident. FHP Sgt Kim Montes said that the couple is not required to give a statement, but that the move was "highly unusual."
Woods' statement reads:
This situation is my fault, and it's obviously embarrassing to my family and me. I'm human, and I'm not perfect...This is a private matter, and I want to keep it that way...Although I understand there is curiosity, the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible.
The only person responsible for the accident is me. My wife, Elin, acted courageously when she saw I was hurt and in trouble. She was the first person to help me. Any other assertion is absolutely false.
Woods has remained very private about his personal life. He keeps his family, wife Elin and their two children Sam, 2, and Charlie, 9 months, out of the media spotlight. In a posting to Facebook, Woods said that the media doesn't cover his family in gossip magazines and tabloids "because we're kind of boring."
After Friday's accident, the family has been the center point for many media coverings. The National Enquirer reported Sunday about a possible mistress of Tiger's, Rachel Uchitel. Uchitel told the AP that
"she resents[s] that [her] reputation is getting completely blasted in the media." She has met with prominent lawyer Gloria Allred, who represented Nicole Brown Simpson's family in the OJ Simpson case. "At some point," Allred said Sunday, "we'll decide what the next step should be."
