A Sacramento mother accused of killing her 3-year old daughter last weekend is now claiming she was the victim of domestic violence.
According to court documents, Anul Malik Ram claimed her estranged husband "called and told me close friend that he had purchased a gun and was going to kill me and all of my friends." She also stated that she has a scar from where Dinesh Ram threw a drawer at her, and that he had also "physically chased me with a fireplace poker [and] pushed me onto the bed."
Dinesh Ram called police at 1 am on Sunday, fearing that his 3-year old daughter had been killed by her mother. When authorities arrived at the mother's apartment, they discovered the preschooler unresponsive. She was taken to US Davis Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The couple's seven year old son was not harmed.
Anul Ram is in the psychiatric ward of the Sacramento County Main Jail, being held on suspicion of murder. She will be arraigned later this afternoon.
