Channon Christian's parents prepare for trial / WATE
The families of Christoper Newsom and Channon Christian were seated in the front row yesterday for George Thomas' final pretrial hearing. The absence of George Thomas at that hearing was viewed as an insult.
"I keep hoping they look me in the eye one time so they can see what I am thinking, but they won't because they are all cowards," says Channon's father, Gary Christian.
The families are prepared for the gruesome images that will be presented during the trial, and the testimonies they'll hear. "The same photographs will be shown. The same mud will be kicked on the bottom of Chris's feet showing where he walked through that muddy field to his death from those animals and that is what they are, absolute animals," says Chris' father, Hugh Newsom. Being prepared, though, doesn't make it any easier.
Although there is not as much hard evidence against George Thomas as there has been in previous trials, the families are confident the outcome of the trial will be the same.
The families are glad to see that authorities have acted quickly in the trials, although they are saddened that they will be part of a murder trial over the holidays. They would have preferred to wait until the beginning of the year.
