It was on Oct. 15, 2008 when 21-year-old Catherine Solinski-Blain of Waterford Township was found dead outside the Rib Rack restaurant in her car with a gunshot to her head.
Prosecutors are accusing 16-year-old Jerome Hamilton and two other men, to have staked out the restaurant, located on Southfield Road in Lathrup Village, with the intention of robbing Blain who was the night manager at the time. Police reports say Blain was shot after she was trying to leave the parking lot late that night.
Oakland County Circuit Judge Leo Bowman declared a mistrial in August when a jury previously deadlocked on a verdict for Hamilton. A jury is being selected today, Nov. 9, for the second trial.
The other two men also implicated in the murder have already faced court proceedings. Deandre Sturges, 19, went on trial after Hanilton’s first trial. His verdict has been sealed pending Hamilton’s second trial. Brandon Davis, 21, pleaded guilty to conspire to commit armed robbery. He has not been sentenced yet.
Hamilton is being charged with first-degree premeditated murder which if convicted could land the 16-year-old in prison for the rest of his life with no possibility of parole.
