Detroit – The funeral for Jamar Pinkney Jr. who was shot by his father execution style was today as about 1,000 mourners gathered to reflect on the 15-year-old's life.
The funeral began at 11 a.m. at the Second Ebeneezer Baptist Church. Jamar was seen lying in state.
As the service ended Jamar’s mother, Lazette Cherry was seen collapsing in tears over her son’s body.
Deborah Jenkins, the Principal at Martin Luther King Jr. High School where Jamar was a sophomore paid her respects. “Your son, wherever he walked, was generous and was kind,” Jenkins said. “This is not the way for anyone to leave this earth.”
Police said Jamar Pinkney Sr., 37, ordered his son to disrobe, marched him naked into a field near their home and then shot him in the head as he kneeled and begged for mercy saying, “No Daddy!”
According to police, Jamar had reportedly admitted that he had "inappropriate" contact with a three-year-old girl relative. However relatives said the girl was examined and doctors said there was no sign of abuse.
