Google Doodle Vancouver 2010 features bobsleigh

The Google doodle in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic series for today features bobsledding. A bobsleigh, also called bobsled, is sledding through the Google logo with the second “O” missing.

As in the Google doodle, the men two-men bobsleigh teams will be going for gold today at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. USA-1 team of Steve Holcomb and Curt Tomasevicz are in fourth position after the first two heats on Saturday.

The Germany-1 team of Andre Lange and Kevin Kuske are currently on top of the leader board. They are followed by Germany-2 and Russia-1. There were four crashes during the first two heats of bobsledding on Saturday.

The Whistler sledding track is known to be fast and difficult. It is the same track that two other sports featured earlier in Google doodles use; the luge and the skeleton.

There are three events for bobsledding at the Winter Olympics; two-man, four-man and women’s. The women will begin their event on Tuesday and the men’s four-man starts on Friday.

TeamUSA use bobsleighs designed and built by Bo-Dyn. Former NASCAR driver Geoff Bodine started the project to design and build the best bobsleds for USA to use back in 1992.

Since the USA teams have started using Bo-Dyn bobsleds they have won four Olympic medals. After the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, Bo-Dyn will be relocating to Concord, NC in the spring.

You can cheer on Holcomb and Tomaseicz and their Bo-Dyn bobsled tonight starting with TV coverage at 8 pm. WCNC-TV 36 Charlotte will be airing the gold medal heat tonight. And we can all wait in anticipation as to what sport tomorrow’s Google doodle will feature.
