1/1/10:  Ohio State Buckeyes defeat the Oregon Ducks 26-17 in the 96th Rose Bowl

As a team Ohio State played well enough this year to earn a berth to its first Rose Bowl since 1996 but according to the AP, the Buckeyes lacked the individual performances to warrant one single All-American.

The Buckeyes finished the season at 10-2, winning the Big Ten Conference title for the fifth straight time, yet this Ohio State team seemed to be short on the star power of past versions.

Terrelle Pryor was the pre-season Big Ten offensive player of the year but a slow start and an abysmal performance against Purdue extinguished any chances of post season honors for the sophomore quarterback.

Defensive back Kurt Coleman was named first team All-Big Ten Conference and overall had an impressive year, recording 64 tackles and 5 interceptions but those statistics could not catapult him past the likes of Alabama’s Joe Haden or Florida’s Javier Arenas.

The Big Ten as a conference fared well, placing seven players on the 2009 AP All-American second and third teams. Penn State and Iowa had six of the seven players named with Michigan State adding one.

Alabama led all schools with six first team selections.

Ohio State plays the University of Oregon on January 1st in the 96th Rose Bowl. The game can be seen on ABC at 4:30 p.m. ET. Next
