Earlier this week the Amityville horror house on 108 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, Long Island went on sale for 1.5M. Since it went on the market, there have been rumors regarding why the owners are selling the property. One source says that the house is for sale because a new book and movie will be coming out sometime in the near future that will be based on the famous house. Another source revealed that the house may be leased to an animal rights group that wishes to use the property to create an attraction that would deter people from eating meat or using animal products. The house was the murder scene of an entire family back in the 1970's, and has been rumored for many years to be haunted. The house to this day has many visitors throughout the year, especially around Halloween. Many previous owners have commented on the unwanted visitors, stating that there was absolutely nothing to see and that they disliked the lack of privacy they experienced while living there.
Yet I have always wondered why anyone would want to move into a house with such publicity in the first place. There are laws that were created in which real estate agents must inform potential buyers of any hauntings, murders, or other extremely negative happenings that have occurred on the property that they are selling. If a real estate agent informed me of things like what has happened in the Amityville horror house, I would not want to buy it. Maybe some people like the attention, but if you are in the group of people who do not, why would you buy a house like that and move in? Even renting it out sounds like a possible liability. What do you think?

Thanks for the question. I definitely would not want to live in a house with such history. Even if I didn't think there were ghosts it would give me a bad feeling to know such horror occurred right where I sleep and eat, I could never be happy there.
I am a contractor for Philadelphia.I will tell you that house is not worth 1.5m. I cant believe that is the price for the house. Look at the size. Not to mention what happened there. Maybe 900k lol this is so funny to me
ya your right. But i do think its haunted i watched all the movies and im from marion ohio.
owner sunk a lot of money into making that house beautiful. It's on one of the best spots of the Amityville River and it lets out right into the state channel. 20 minute boat ride to the beach.
dude come on, theres ben 6 murders in that house, and it has to be haunted by them. And plus it was built on top of a indian barriel ground dude. so i do believe its haunted!!!!!!!
The Lutz family did not write the book. They also did not admit it was a hoax - they kept with their story straight up through their deaths. There are plenty of things that "prove" it was a hoax, and all of them are full of holes. I'm not saying it's true, but there's also no proof it didn't happen. There's a great site with both sides' points at Amityville FAQ.
I personally think that the house is not haunted, and never has been; I believe Robert Defeo was the one haunted. Mr. Defeo, who killed his family, was obviously a tortured man. I think that our mind is a very powerful thing...if someone had moved into the house who had not known its history and reported haunting, I don't think they would have reported anything. Plus, the owners now have claimed that absolutely nothing paranormal has ever happened. I can only hope that the souls of the murdered victims have long crossed over to the Other Side, where, no doubt, they belong. Psychic Sylvia Browne was offered a six-figure dollar amount to do a live "seance" in the house back in the 80's, but turned it down because she wholeheartedly believes that the house remains unoccupied by spectral beings. Good article!
I personally dont believe that the house is haunted, but i would never move into a house with such history,i would not feel comfortable in my own home knowing that there was six murders in that house.I would'nt be able to sleep, but i do believe that at one time the house was haunted a very long time ago, but not anymore, and i will admit that if those murders would have never takin place in that house,i would buy the house very quickl.
The house is haunted, thats wy ppl dont by it.
I love the house, but i would never move into a home with such terrable history,i would'nt be able to go to sleep in my own home knowing that six people were murderd,i could'nt do it.If the house did not have such bad history i would buy it very quickly, because its a beautiful home.I do believe that many years ago that the house may have been haunted, but i dont believe it is now.
I believe that when Ronald Defeo lived in that house the drugs that he was using opened a door for satan to use him to kill his family. It is very possible that the evil spirits lingered there even after the families deaths and that the Lutzes were tormented by these spirits. That doesnt mean that the house remains haunted to this day.
i think the place proly was haunted but i think some where the 6ppl that got killed found some peace and moved on
i beleave that something did happen in that house be couse if it was a hoax no one in their right mind would have bought it in the first place
i do belive dat da house is haunted bt i would never buy dat house and move in.it u couldnt sleep at nite da 1st nosie i heard i be rite out dat door lol
