If you decide to take a drive down the scenic roads of rural Connecticut, you may encounter more than the occasional living hitch hiker. The constitution state has quite a few highways that have generated ghost stories for centuries. Taking a wrong turn may end up in an encounter with demonic children or the apparition of woman that drowned in her wedding dress. Here is a list compiled of the top five most haunted roads in Connecticut.
1. Downs Road, Hamden: This abandoned road is dotted with the foundations of houses that existed when the road was used to connect Hamden to Bethany. Motorists have parked at the end of it for a leisurely hike and have had their car windows scratched by otherworldly creatures. A young couple had several rocks thrown at their truck when they had stopped to check if they had hit an unknown animal. The culprits were thought to be the demon children that allegedly inhabit the road. Before the couple drove the truck out of the woods they heard a terrible screeching noise. Upon returning home they found four large claw marks down the side of the vehicle. People also regularly experience feelings of fear and doom once they enter the dark woods surrounding the road.
2. Hell Hallow Road, Voluntown: People walking along the hiking trails on this curved and wooded road have felt an ominous presence. It is thought to be a young girl that died from Diptheria in the 1700s. She was supposedly buried in the forest adjacent to the road. Drivers that utter her name near her grave site have had their cars allegedly stall or crash. There is also evidence that satanic rituals have taken place near a pond on the road. Reports of large black flash that appears in front of cars,orbs and strange lights have also been sighted.
3. Whirlwind Hill Road, Wallingford: A local legends states that back in the 1930s; a young woman was left at the altar by her lover. The bride was very distraught and allegedly threw herself into a local reservoir and drowned. Motorists have seen her wandering on the side of the road in a soaked wedding dress. She beckons drivers for a ride but when they turn around she disappears. The bride’s ghost story gained credibility when she was sighted by two police officers.
4. Long Lane, Middletown: This road is home to a former juvenile detention center. The facility was home to a large number of suicides. There have been many sightings of children running through the woods on the road. You can also hear phantom screams from a cement building beneath the ground. NO TRESPASSING, YOU WILL BE ARRESTED FOR GOING NEAR MODERN FACILITY.
5. Oak Avenue, Torrington: A little girl killed in the 1950s is said to walk the road holding a dog collar. She wears a ripped white dress and appears the most in the winter. The locals have tried to approach her but she vanishes into thin air when they attempt to.
Note: The demonic children that inhabit Downs Road are thought to be "Melon Heads". They are assumed to be a group of mutant people that escaped from an asylum or deformed mountain folk.
