Kansas- Olathe Naval air station
The naval air station was constructed back around 1942.
It was used to quickly train new pilots and ready them for flying during wartime. Later on it became a refueling station for pilots.
One naval pilot coming in at night to refuel, found himself in a precarious situation. The night was incredibly dark and fog was so heavy, making visibility at almost zero. He, with help of air traffic controller, found what he thought was the runway lights. In actuality, he was coming towards the base from the wrong direction and the lights were not runway lights, but that of the administration building.
He immediately crashed on Jan. 3rd, 1949, into the South West corner of the building. There was no time to alter course or to even think.
Witnesses who saw him crash, said he got out of the plane's cockpit, walked many feet to the other side of the building and simply vanished. When the cockpit was investigated, his body was found still inside.
Over the years many who worked there have seen and heard his restless spirit inside Hanger 21.
He prefers to make his presence known late at night, on a full moon, near the wee dawn hours. Usually a lone person or guard, witnesses his ghostly specter. He walks across the hanger then disappears into nothingness. Voices, footsteps, doors & windows opening and closing, are common occurrences of strange paranormal activity.
Also undefined noises are heard both in the day and at night
.The male spirit has been named the "Commander". It seems the Commander, either doesn't know he has died or simply wants to relive his earthly time lost.
Whatever the case, this base is off limits to sightseers, so it is highly suggested to please stay away.
