"Woodies on the Wharf"
This year was no exception as it was a spectacular success with over 200 of the custom and classic woodies on display. The attendance numbers aren’t available yet but while I was there it was large, well into the thousands, all generally friendly and polite, taking care to stand back while photos were being shot.
The weather couldn't have been any better, temperatures were in the mid 70s to low 80s with a nice little sea breeze. Just a beautiful day with stunning views of the ocean, the Santa Cruz beach and boardwalk as a back drop.
This is a car show but there were many motorcycles parked along the wharf and some were awsome. The Woodies were fantastic! Some very rare, as in a couple classic 1930s or 1940s Rolls Royce woodie for example. Unfortunately I didn’t get the model and year info. This car was surrounded with a crowd, I was lucky getting this shot!
Some of these classic and customized woodies are for sale and, if your interested the prices generally run from $50K to over $100K.
The resturants along the wharf were doing a brisk business, the smell of fresh seafood and barbque was in the air! Plenty to eat and drink, I love this event!
While at the show I met some interesting folks, who were also members of the Santa Cruz Woodies Club and was invited to a get together with a few of the members after the event. This is a very cool club! I'm currently awaiting my approval for membership. You don't have to own a woodie to join!
All in all, this being my first visit to the Santa Cruz Woodies on the Wharf car show, it was a big hit with me and I plan on being there again next year. the Santa Cruz Woodies on the Wharf is destined to become a major event on the central California coast. Even bigger than it already is. I hope the city can handle the influx of visitors. I noticed that there was also a large number of bikers there. That could be a great motorcycle event too! Hmmm... Woodies and bikes. Double Cool!
Next years Woodies on the Wharf will be the 26th of June, 2010. Be sure to reserve lodging early.
